Ladies wearing pants!
Apparently, women's figure skating decided that 2006 was the year to finally let the ladies wear the pantalones, which sort of makes me wonder how long the pants/no pants issue had been contemplated prior to these Olympics. Although the Russian girl -- I mean old lady (she's 27) -- is the only one so far sporting the bold new look in figure skating fashion.

It's sort of like an adult-size onezie (onezie = possibly the stupidest word ever, btw), with sparkles...

the best part was when the commentators said "...the new pants rule really suits Irina body type and skating style..."
the whole thing is so insane that you can't help but get engrossed, it's like "Best in Show" in a hurricane of sequin's.

"hurricane of sequins"! You nailed it. That describes figure skating perfectly. It's such a ridiculous sport; it's like watching a beauty pageant at times -- you're embarrassed for watching because it's so gross with all the ridiculous costumes, bad music, and fake smiles -- and also strangely engrossing, like you said.
